Finance Director
Location: Bedford (On-site with some flex)
Rate: c. £500 per day (Ltd Co) / £90,000 (Salary)
Contract: 6 Months Interim with potential to go permanent
A growing privately owned business is seeking an experienced Interim Finance Director to stabilise, lead, and modernise its finance function during a period of organisational change. This assignment offers the opportunity to shape the finance strategy, improve controls, and support senior leadership while the company evaluates long-term permanent options. It is also possible the role could be offered on a permanent basis if the right candidate is immediately available.
The Role
As Interim Finance Director, you will play a hands-on leadership role, strengthening the financial foundations of the business and driving clarity, control, and informed decision-making.
Key priorities include:
Leadership & Ownership
- Provide strategic financial leadership to the senior team.
- Build confidence across the organisation through clear communication and strong governance
- Mentor and support a small finance team, improving capability and accountability.
Reporting, Insight & Controls
- Oversee all financial operations including reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow.
- Implement improved financial controls, policies, and frameworks to support scalable growth
- Strengthen management reporting to give the SLT visibility on profitability, margins, and performance.
Cashflow, Credit & Working Capital
- Take full ownership of cashflow, invoicing, and credit control activities.
- Monitor working capital and implement improvements where needed.
Strategic Support
- Partner with operational leaders to analyse performance and support key decision-making.
- Contribute to long-term business planning, helping prepare the organisation for sustainable growth.
What You’ll Bring
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
- Strong experience as a Finance Director or senior finance leader.
- Proven success improving processes, reporting, controls, and financial governance.
- Ability to lead and modernise a finance team during periods of change.
- Comfortable operating in a multi-site or multi-division environment
- Hands-on, organised, commercially minded, and capable of influencing at senior level.
