FD Recruit have another Finance Director Job Vacancy for a High Wycombe based client – handled by our South East Team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance/Commercial Director to join an award winning and well established international market leader in the manufacture and sale of high tech equipment. Based in the Thames Valley, this highly respected business, require a commercially focussed senior finance professional to provide finance, operational and commercial support across the organisation during this crucial period of growth.

Reporting to, and working in conjunction with, the founder/Managing Director who is passionate about the business, the Finance/Commercial Director will be instrumental in streamlining and improving processes across the organisation with a focus on total business development and growth. This role will have responsibility for Finance, HR, Legal, Facilities, Commercial and IT functions and will ensure the development and smooth running of these at this critical time. Ensuring financial controls and the commercial framework are highly robust and designing and driving sustainable, profitable growth while jointly taking responsibility for the direction of the entire business.

Key duties will encompass:

  • Building strong business partnering relationships with MD and Key Stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • Measure the effectiveness and efficiency of operational processes and design and implement strategies to improve processes
  • Provide strategic direction to both the business as a whole including the HR, IT and Finance functions to support the business growth goals and develop and implement growth strategies
  • Motivates staff to meet or surpass organisational and sales goals and co-ordinate with all departments to recruit, motivate, develop and retain skilled talent
  • Provides support and development to all employees, including management, and promote a culture of peer mentoring to enable career development programmes throughout the business
  • Provide a consistent system for employee salaries, benefits and performance incentives, and make sure employees feel valued
  • Promotes effective communication between colleagues for the benefit of information flow and to curb any problems before they arise
  • Review and manage business planning and reporting processes ensuring reporting timelines are minimised to free up resources to maximise value added activities
  • Advise the Managing Director and Board of Directors on all financial matters, including business critical situations, risk management and possible business opportunities and cash flow strategies
  • Ensure all new business opportunities are processed through strong commercial and rigorous governance processes and evaluate success of newly implemented sales plans
  • To be hands on in respect of certain routine accounting tasks and to produce monthly management accounts and reports, ensure the integrity and confidentiality of the finance function, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to work with the external accountants and advisors when required.
  • Ownership of budget and forecasting with strong commercial acumen
  • Supporting and challenging budget owners to meet targets and deliver budgets 

About you 

  • A qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) ideally with a least 10 year post qualified experience with the ability to command respect from all
  • Previous experience as a standalone FD essential and ideally with some exposure in the manufacturing sector with an international bias. Will also have had plenty of hands on accounting experience at all levels.
  • Build strong and effective governance processes / framework around projects and commercial activities
  • Commercial outlook with an ability to ‘see the bigger picture’ and understand the importance of diligent cash flow management
  • A goal orientated, resilient finance professional with a proactive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Plenty of drive and enthusiasm with a quick grasp of the commercial realities of the business and able to express it clearly and succinctly in financial terms.
  • Works well under pressure in fast paced environment and can deal with rapidly changing situations
  • Strong technical, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong staff management and IT Systems skills
  • Outgoing, honest and approachable personality who is not afraid to be ‘hands-on’ when need be
  • Prepared to travel internationally when required
